Cabeza Prieta Natural History Association - Ajo, Arizona

Description

Mission Statement

The Cabeza Prieta Natural History Association (CPNHA) is a totally private, non-government, non-profit entity dedicated to enhancing the appreciation and understanding of the Sonoran Desert and the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge (CPNWR). Aspects include the plants, wildlife, geology, climate and even the stars as seen from the desert.

The Cabeza Prieta Natural History Association was started in Ajo, Arizona in 1995 when it sponsored the first of the tours to the top of Childs Mountain during National Wildlife Week. Ever since that time, the Association has coordinated with the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge staff to offer these tours giving visitors an overview of part of the Refuge and a big chunk of the Sonoran Desert.

Since 1996 the Cabeza Prieta Natural History Association has sponsored the winter Natural History Lecture Series. These lectures occur every two weeks from January through March. They offer winter visitors and residents a chance to hear experts, some world famous, talk about all aspects of the Sonoran Desert and the region.
