Description
The membership of the Chicago African-American Photographers (CAAAP) is composed of over sixty, African-American, commercial, fine art, freelance and newspaper photographers.
Some of our members are established professionals, but they range in skill and craft to the photographic hobbyists. Amongst the ranks are three Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalists: Mr. Ovie Carter - winning in 1975 and in 2001, Mr. John H. White - winning in 1982 and Mr. Milbert O. Brown, Jr. who won in 2001 for Explanatory Reporting.
All CAAAP members share the common goal of photographically documenting the culture and experiences of African-Americans, in metropolitan Chicago, at the turn of a new century. CAAAP is committed to exposing its members, as well as the community to the importance of photography and the use of it as a medium of expression. The members also share information about upcoming exhibitions, lectures, photography books and photo techniques.
