CMV Retinitis
CytoMegaloVirus Retinitis
An inflammation of the eye's retina that can lead to blindness. A common DNA virus, CMV is usually staved off naturally given an effective immune response. For patient's with compromised immune systems the virus can become problematic, causing problems within the eye and, sometimes, in the rest of the body as well. For this reason, the virus is commonly associated with AIDS patients
In approximately 30% of cases, damage is done to the retina. Other symptoms include:
- blurred vision
- eye pain
- photophobia
- redness of the eye
- blindness
