By Jove was started approximately ten years ago mainly out of desperation. I got my first Berner, Rosie, from Robert Redford in Utah. Rosie, sadly, died in March at the age of 11. When I got Rosie I would shop the dog shows and pet stores for Berner "stuff" and found little to nothing that had a Bernese Mountain Dog on it.
I decided that the only thing to do was to create my own little niche for the Berner lovers and thus By Jove was created. I did this more or less part time as I had a full time job as Director of the Ohio Film Commission and traveled quite a lot. However, I retired almost four years ago and now I am doing what I like best---spending time with my grandchildren , my three Berners, (Casper, Gambler, Kristal) and finding new and wonderful Berner items.
Having gone to the last eight national specialties and many, many, regional specialties. I have met many wonderful people and have seen hundreds of incredible Bernese Mountain Dogs. Going to a national specialty is like the greatest thing in the world. Beautiful dogs----puppies, adults and everything in between, surround you. You get to talk about Berners and visit with many interesting and knowledgeable breeders and novices about the breed we all love. If you have never attended a national specialty you are missing out on a wonderful experience. Also, the shopping is great.
