I began my journalism career as a summer intern at the Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek, California, in 1978. During next decade, I also worked as a staff writer, editor and columnist for The Sacramento Bee and Monterey County Herald.Since 1987, I have been a full-time independent writer and columnist for many newspapers, magazines, news services and web sites. I have traveled to more than 20 countries on sports, travel and lifestyle assignments.
