Title

The Burton Mail

Description

The Burton Mail is a British daily newspaper serving the East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire areas. Current circulation is 13,221.

About:

The Burton Mail has over a century's worth of history. First established in 1898, the paper's original function was to rival The Burton Guardian. The reasons for this were political; The Burton Guardian was influenced by the town's Liberal Party, a predecessor of the Liberal Democrats. The Burton Mail, in contrast, was intended to air the views of the town's Conservative Party and received financial support from the town's brewery barons.

The Burton Mail triumphed over its main rivals, finally buying out the Burton Chronicle in 1957, which was the last paid-for opposition title.

Today, The Burton Mail remains the only paid-for title in Burton-on-Trent and has a current circulation of 15,665.
