A childhood friend of mine, Darren Bush, wrote this short poem titled "Memories I've Used", these two short sentences express a wonderful formula for education. It is said that as long as someone remembers something, it lives on forever. The laughs, the tears, the work, the play, the good times and bad times, live on as long as we remember them. How comforting it is to look at ones' life work, filled with memories of children, to comfort us through the years.
Today the challenges are great and education must be honored and remembered. School Districts must learn the wisdom and the warmth that children can share with us. The children's smiles and the laughter can lift us to new heights. It is the kind words and support of our administrators, teachers, and classified employees that create a safe learning environment for our children. The skills, thoughtfulness, dedication and generosity of the Burlingame School District are reflected in our communities. We all give our love and caring for education unselfishly to our students.
As we remember the freshness and certainty of those memories, they embrace and rejuvenate us. Students and parents leave us, but they are not forgotten. The past as well as the present education community in the Burlingame School District inspire us day after day and help us through our struggles. These memories are tucked away and kept safe until the day comes we use them to rekindle the fires within. As education in Burlingame goes forward, the children and their lives encourage us all to do our very best for their education.
