This year the Bruce Funeral Home In Gardner will enter into its 117th year of continuous operation. The business is one of the oldest funeral homes in Kansas and the oldest continually owned business in Johnson County.
The Funeral home was established in 1885 by Peter J. Murphy, and later was passed onto his daughter Grace and husband Harry Patterson. In 1949 Roy Bruce purchased the business from the Pattersons and in 1963 moved the funeral home to its present location at 106 South Center. The Bruce Funeral Home is still owned and operated by the Bruce family and is currently in the families third generation of operation.
