The Saint Bernard is very quiet and friendly, devoted to their owners and family and are especially fond of children. They can be wary of strangers and these characteristics make them a trustworthy companion and a good defender for the family. They have an extremely keen sense of smell and a well trained Saint Bernard is said to be able to pick up a person's scent in the snowy expanse of the mountains at a distance of up to 3 kilometers away.
