About BrothersDrake.com

We make mead. Simply put, mead is wine made from honey.

More poetically, mead is the drink of the gods, cherished from the time of the Pharaohs to the Emperors of China.

Come taste it in Columbus, Ohio! Brothers Drake makes award-winning mead in Columbus, Ohio using pure honey and the best locally-sourced ingredients.

Mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting a honey-water mixture. Commonly also called honey wine, mead is arguably and understandably one of the oldest beverages known to mankind on every continent. Over the many centuries, people have modified the recipe and, with over 150 meaderies in the United States, the current century is no exception.

So, like most things, there are various ways to make mead. At Brothers Drake, making mead is based on the following principles:

1. Start Local: Buy local honey, support local agriculture, and produce a local product.

2. Use the Best: Look for the highest quality local product on the market, ordering the best from the source closest to Ohio.

3. No Heat: Do not boil honey. The No Heat Method keeps honey flavors true to the source and that makes a better mead.

4. No Added Sulfites: Unlike grapes which have wild yeast growing on them, honey is naturally antiseptic and antibiotic, so no sulfites needed.

5. Build community: Share our knowledge openly and are grateful to people everywhere who ask questions, share their perspective, and engage in an open collaborative dialogue on mead-making.

6. Embrace creativity: Mead can be paired with wonderful cheeses, appetizers, and entrées, as well as used in cooking and in mixed drinks.

To date at Brothers Drake Meadery you will find the following kinds of mead:

Varietals/Traditionals– mead made from single-floral-source honey, Melomels – mead made with the addition of fruit, Metheglins – mead made with the addition of spices, and Cysers – mead made with the addition of apple cider or juice.
