Priceline buys online car hire brokerage By Roger Blitz, Leisure Industries Correspondent Published: May 20, 2010 02:41 | Last updated: May 20 2010 02:41 [1]

TravelJigsaw, the online car hire brokerage, has been bought by US-based travel services company Priceline.com in a deal demonstrating a revival in the art of private equity groups successfully completing exit strategies. The Manchester-based company, which operates in 31 markets, was sold by Isis Equity Partners and the management for an undisclosed price, but it is understood that the total transactional value of the debt-and-equity deal was about £170m ($245m). Isis, which paid £12.9m for a 40 per cent stake in the business in 2008 as part of a management buy-out, denied that figure. The company was bought by David Crossland, the founder of MyTravel, which started up TravelJigsaw in 2004. Yorkshire Bank provided additional funding as part of a refinancing in January that saw Isis get back its original investment. The management team, led by Greg Wills, is retaining a minority stake. Also profiting from the sale is Roger Devlin, the outgoing non-executive chairman, who is also chairman of Gamesys, Principal Hotels and Satellite Information Services. Adam Holloway, of Isis, said the private equity group was “delighted” with its return. Mr Wills said management and Isis had invested heavily to build the business and were “ready for the next phase of the company’s evolution within Priceline”. Priceline is adding an online car hire business to its suite of travel services that includes the flagship Priceline.com operation, which provides a range of leisure travel services, and Booking.com, a hotel operation.

TravelJigsaw deal completed Published: Jun 18, 2008 [2]

TRAVELJIGSAW, the international car hire broker, has completed its £25m sale to private equity house ISIS. The M.E.N. broke the news of the deal last week.

The fast-growing company, owned by travel sector heavyweight David Crossland, founder of Airtours, trades as Carhire3000.com and last year saw profits jump to £2.2m from £465,000 in 2006.

Yorkshire Bank has provided a funding package of £8m to support the buyout.

Managing director Greg Wills, product and commercial director Nichola Moran, sales and marketing director Laurence Marlor and IT director Andrew Crossland met while working at MyTravel, formerly Airtours.
