A broken neck is often referred to as a cervical fracture. In the neck, there are seven cervical vertebrae that can be fractured by many different types of injuries. Traffic accidents as well as individuals diving into shallow pools or water at are at the top of list. When the bones of the neck are moved in an abnormal way, it can bring on spinal cord injuries that can lead to paralysis, loss of feeling, or even fatalities.
