Description
As a mosaic artist, Diana has drawn inspiration from a number of other artists and art styles. Primary among these are the works of Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona, and Niki de Saint Phalle and Raymond Isidore in France, whose works practically defined the Pique Assiette style of mosaic, the style in which she feels the most comfortable expressing herself. She uses bits and pieces of "found objects", hand cut china, pottery, hand-made tile and more traditional mosaic tesserae to tell stories and to lend a sense of whimsy and renewed life to everyday items in the garden and home.
Diana is on the faculty of the Chicago Mosaic School, has exhibited her work in galleries in the Chicago area, Ketchum, Idaho and Washington, DC. She also teaches Pique Assiette mosaic out of her studio in Bolingbrook, IL.
"If I can teach my students one thing in the course of their mosaic education, it is that there is almost always a new way to use, explore and enjoy the beauty of something which might otherwise be thrown away. An artist only needs an imagination and a good set of tools!"
