I served my time as a paviour under Fred Dodds (himself a time served stone mason) with Wilson and Wilkinson of Walkden, Greater Manchester. From there on, I've pretty much worked for myself and contracted to other companies where I've built the knowledge and experience I have today. Eventually, I decided to go it alone and setup what is now Bowland Paving utilising the well established relationships with the best suppliers and quarries.
A few years ago I met garden designer John Clowes (www.johnclowes.co.uk) who invited me to work on a project for Granada TV. This was the start of a very successful working relationship and John, along with many other garden designers, regularly call upon our expertise.
My son, Nicholas, is now a fully trained paviour and we have two more trainees and a bricklayer in the family business. As well as all being from the same family we also have another thing in common - a work ethic that gives us pride in the quality of the finsihed project.
