Snowboarding for Beginner Skiing Adults - Gear, Resorts, Lessons, Information
Description
My name is Gary. I was born in 1956 placing me smack-dab in the middle of the Boomer generation. I've lived in Texas most of my life, never learned to ski and, in fact, had never been on a mountain in the winter until December of 2001. I have a daughter born in 1986 and a son born on September 11, 1987. My wife and I have been married since 1980.
I had always been fascinated with winter sports. Many of my friends ski. I just never made it a priority to get on the bandwagon.
In the winter of 2000 my daughter went on a church ski trip and loved it. I decided at that point the time had come to find out for myself what all the fun was about. So I began to plan a trip for the winter of 2001. My son would be included this time who, like me, had never skied. Being a 15 year old at the time his natural inclination was to learn to ride a snowboard. Since lessons would be required I decided to go along with the snowboarding idea so I could keep an eye on him and we could stay together. My daughter invited a friend who was an experienced skier. So we had a plan: The girls would ski and my son and I would take lessons and learn to snowboard. We did the typical Texan winter vacation: Drive to southern Colorado for 4 nights and 3 days on the mountain.
