About the Chieftain

The Wyandotte Chieftain was established in May 1896 by Ed Matthews, and two years later adopted the name Bonner Springs Chieftain just prior to the incorporation of Bonner Springs as a city of the third class in 1898. The name was changed in the mid-1970's to the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Chieftain to better reflect the area the paper serves. The Chieftain added a companion shopper in 1975. In October 2000, The World Company, Lawrence, Kansas, purchased Chieftain-Sentinel Publications.

Josh Roberts, a 1996 graduate of Basehor-Linwood High School, started writing for Chieftain/Sentinel Publications in January 2001. He attended Kansas State University for two years in secondary education and English.

Following Kansas State he attended Kansas City Kansas Community College where he was assistant editor and sports columnist of the student newspaper.
