The Irish Blue Cross is an animal care charity (CHY 5386) dedicated to the needs of sick and injured animals. The charity is recognised as one of Ireland's foremost welfare organisations and has treated well over half a million sick animals since its foundation in 1945. Annually, up to 10,000 pets are treated and vaccinated and restored to full health at our mobile clinics and arising from our referrals to private practice. Today, there are ten mobile clinic locations in operation at Ballybrack, Ballyfermot, Blanchardstown, Cabra, Crumlin, Donnycarney, Finglas, Smithfield, Tallaght and Walkinstown. All clinics are operated in the evenings by dedicated teams of volunteers, including drivers, veterinary surgeons and helpers. The administrative activities of the Irish Blue Cross are carried out at the office by a small team of staff backed by a voluntary management committee.
The Irish Blue Cross horse ambulance service now operates at twenty-four Irish racecourses, working closely with veterinary staff to assist injured horses.
In 2002 the charity purchased a second-hand premises at 15A Goldenbridge Industrial Estate where it garages it entire fleet of vehicles. In time, the charity hopes to open a small animal clinic at Inchicore to advance the work of its mobile service.
