Pola Rapaport
Winner of a 2002 Guggenheim Fellowship and 2002 NYFA Fellowship, she produced recently a feature-length non-fiction film called "Writer of O". It is the story surrounding the background and publication of a shocking erotic novel whose author hid her identity behind a pseudonym for forty years. Rapaport's short film, "September Eleventh: Eyewitnesses" chronicles the accounts of friends and neighbors who saw and heard the terrorist destruction in their lower Manhattan neighborhood. She works as a TV and film director and editor in New York City. Her work has been screened at festivals and museums including Sundance, Edinburgh, Seattle and MoMA, and prizes have been awarded at many, including the Amsterdam, Leningrad and Oberhausen Film Festivals. She has received grants for her films twice each from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Jerome Foundation, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. As an editor, she has worked for Maysles Films, Columbia Artists, National Geographic and others on documentaries that have been shown both on television as well as in theatrical release, some of which have been nominated for Academy Awards. She received an Emmy Award nomination for sound editing in 1994.
