Luck of the draw is all it took for David Bean of Westby, WI to get the chance of a lifetime to fulfill an individual dream and turn BlackJack Racing into a family affair. While he and wife, Cheryl and friends vacationed in the city of lights, BlackJack Racing, LLC got its luck when lady luck turned on the Las Vegas blackjack dealer and shined on David.
With his blackjack winnings in his hand, David knew what he wanted to do with his windfall and Cheryl didn’t stand in his way. With the purchase of his first car and trailer, the twist of fate spun into a saga of racing that enthralls the entire Bean family. While some families like to fish and hunt, the Bean family loves to race. And race they do.
The early stages of BlackJack Racing, LLC started in 1996 when their eldest son, Dexter began racing on a go-kart track at Mormon Coulee Speedway near La Crosse, WI. In 1998, David and his Uncle Jerry Douglas built a dirt go-kart track behind Nordic Lanes Bowling Alley in Westby, WI. This track was later called Nordic Raceway. As a result of the growing popularity of the karting sport in the Coulee Region, two years later Nordic Raceway was converted to asphalt. Today their youngest son, Dillon and their nephew, Nathan Bean, are racing their way around the Nordic track vying for track championships.
