Jim Rosso has studied birds since he was seven years and lived in Syracuse, New York. He became involved with the Onondaga Audubon Society and has been birding ever since. He started photographing birds in 1967 and has been fortunate to have photographed birds from Washington to Florida and Maine to San Diego. The Life Histories of North American Birds is a 26 volume work that was commissioned by the U.S. Government in the 1930s for the purpose of determining the status of birds in the US and determining their economic contributions and costs. The first editor of this work was A.C. Bent who started the project during the1930s and died before its completion. Species profiles were constructed utilizing the experiences and observations of current and historical ornithologists. The material contributes in many ways to our knowledge of birds. The variety of accounts is surprising and the attention to detail remarkable. The accounts are scientific, artistic, and concerned about the human impact on natural resources.
