The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), an international center dedicated to fighting poverty, alleviating hunger and improving the lives of people in developing countries was conceived in 1996. At that time, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), an international financial institution located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, signed an agreement with the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), represented by its Ministry of Environment and Water to establish the center (for English speakers, please click here for contact information). IDB also attracted the support of other donors, including the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the OPEC Fund and the Municipality of Dubai in the UAE.
