- Welcome to Bingen, Washington located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. Only 60 miles east of Portland, Oregon, the town site was platted in 1892 by Theodor Suksdorf who named that town after Bingen-on-the-Rhine, Germany. It incorporated in 1924. Two of the area’s largest employers, SDS Lumber Company and Underwood Fruit, are located in Bingen.
