Description
My earliest recollections were of Berkeley, California in 1945 looking in awe down a long hill to the ocean below. In some way that image has stayed with me and formed much of who I am today.
At 4 years old we moved to Venice, California and again the ocean was nearby. However, in 1950 my family, Richard, Shirley and older brother Ken moved to Northridge in the San Fernando Valley. I grew up riding horses and helping my parents run the Circle C Ranch. Northridge was a small town then and everyone knew everyone else--it was like a family.
I went to several different colleges but finally decided on California State University at Northridge because they specialized in Urban Anthropology. While at Northridge I participated in an international field study and as a result won a National Teacher Corps Fellowship to the University of Southern California Graduate School in Education. I graduated with a Masters in Education, a Life Teaching Credential, was elected Class President, West Coast Representative, and graduated first in my class. In 1969 a profound event in my life occurred, my daughter Kristen Ann Cloke was born.
