- Life on a Ranch: Livestock Guardian Animals Author Cat Urbigkit was at the Sublette County Fair on Saturday with livestock guardian animals from her family’s sheep and cattle ranch near Big Piney. She brought Roo, a yearling burro, and Rena, a five-month old Akbash pup. Roo and Rena are in training to be sheep guardians, and came along with their herd of six orphan lambs in a special hands-on display at the fair. Kids could stop by and pet the animals and learn about the role of livestock guardians on a working ranch. Urbigkit has just released her latest book, “Cattle Kids: A year on the western range,” which features many Sublette County kids.
