- Pyro-Chem Corporation is a leading manufacturer of premixed fire retardant mine sealants, used in the underground coal mining industry. The company was Incorporated in Colorado in 1978. Pyro-Chem relocated to South Point, Ohio in 1992 to be centrally located to the major U.S. underground coalfields, thereby enabling the company to significantly increase production and sales. Pyro-Chem moved to a new 18,500 square foot building, which it currently occupies, in 1994. Approximately sixty-five percent (65%) of all U.S. underground coal production takes place within 200 miles, or four (4) hours, of Pyro-Chem's facility in South Point.
