The Berkeley Beacon has been the weekly student newspaper at Emerson College since 1947. It was named after the intersection of Berkeley and Beacon streets in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, where the Beacon's office was located for over 50 years. After Emerson began selling off its Back Bay properties to finance the creation of a new Theatre District campus, the paper's offices moved temporarily to the Walker Building, located at 120 Boylston St. The paper's new offices will be located at Emerson's Piano Row campus center, located at 150 Boylston St., beginning at the start of the Fall 2006 semester. As The Beacon and its staff continues to expose and analyze important issues at Emerson College, in the city of Boston and beyond, we retain our traditional moniker as a rememberance of the paper's rich history as both a paper of record for the college and a training ground for hundreds of journalists who have passed through its ranks.
