- Nestled in a farming community in Halifax County, North Carolina, the Bear Swamp Hunting Preserve is as diverse as you will find. It is conveniently located minutes from Interstate 95 and is also in close proximity to Interstate 85. The hunting area is comprised of tall pines, swampy bottom lands and young pine thickets adjoining fields of green grasses. Hardwood areas also adjoin as the fields of pines meet the 10 acre pond with wide overlooks for great field of vision. Sturdy, comfortable hunting stands are strategically placed throughout these areas as well as along special "shooting lanes" (20 foot wide, cleared path) which will provide wonderful shooting opportunities. Rising approximately 15 feet, the view from the stand is something to behold. The area has been managed with wildlife habitat and natural feeding patterns in mind. The length of the hunting seasons gives this area a reputation for successful hunting in archery, muzzle loader and rifle/shotgun. The trophy bucks that have been taken in this area rival those anywhere. In addition to superb deer hunting, we offer upland bird (quail, chukar, and pheasant) hunting, all in an environment which includes natural and created cover and food plots.
