Title
Bergen County Players
Description
Not only does BCP have an interesting past, so does the building in Oradell, NJ, that they have called home for over 70 years, the Little Firehouse Theatre. As the current name suggests, the building was originally used as Oradell's firehouse until a newer one was built in 1949. In conjunction with the 70th Anniversary Season, and with the support of the Borough of Oradell, the Players have initiated the process of securing an official county marker denoting the rich history of Little Firehouse Theatre.
In keeping up with the times, and in order to enhance BCP theatergoers' overall experience, in 2002 BCP renovated the Little Firehouse Theatre's lobby and lounge, thanks to the help and talents of Robin Schultz Interior Design.
It all began in 1932, when several small groups of actors pooled their talents and became the Bergen County Players. With no permanent home, our productions were performed at the "Y" in Hackensack. By 1940, having outgrown the "Y", we rented an unused soap factory in River Edge. We cleaned it up, built a stage and converted it into a theatre. We were now an established part of the community, and our audiences were growing.
