Description

On the following pages is information on who we are, what we are, and why we are. As we build the site, we hope this area will become an accurate glimpse of the church and what it stands for. Currently, we have posted a mission statement, Session Leadership, a short history of our church and some information about our staff. We hope you enjoy this section.

Dr. Richard J. Keever, Pastor, came to Bayside Presbyterian Church in September 1982 from the administrative staff of Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, VA, which he served from 1976. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church, United States, on September 29, 1968. He served for eight years as pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, VA. He and his wife, Evelyn (Evie) Gravesen Keever, who is Chaplain at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, have two sons, Daniel and Andrew, both graduates of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Daniel serves as Assistant to the Superintendent, Virginia Beach Public Schools. Andrew is a lawyer in Winston-Salem, NC and is married to Meg and they have a son, Andrew Thomas Keever.

Reverend Will Lowrance, Associate Pastor - Beginning his first pastoral call back in 1981, “Rev. Will” served for two years as the Interim Director of Field Education at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Serving our denomination’s home mission field for the next five years in northwestern Wisconsin, he was called to the five church field of the Maplewood Presbyterian Parish. Accepting his next call to Bayside Presbyterian Church, he has served in Virginia Beach as the Associate Pastor since March of 1988. Along with his Master of Divinity Degree, he has completed a two-year study program to become a Certified Spiritual Director. He has taken and completed Advanced Training and Supervision in both Pastoral Counseling and Congregational Care from the Tidewater Pastoral Counseling Center. Assisting the Head of Staff, serving the Session of the Church, and being a colleague among all of our staff members, he has served in all facets of our congregation’s ministry. Along with his regular responsibilities of teaching, preaching, visiting, meeting, and caring for the poor, he offers confidential Pastoral Care, Counseling, and Spiritual Direction for those seeking new directions in their lives. He also can provide effective resources for professional referrals for those needing and seeking longer-term psychological and spiritual therapy. Now in his early Fifties, Rev. Will is easily recognized in his brown alb, colorful stoles, and his even more colorful stories when he preaches or leads in Children’s time.
