- Battlefield 2 is an unreleased computer game based on the Electronic Arts Battlefield franchise. Battlefield 2 was announced in the Spring of 2004. Battlefield 2 will utilize a new engine for gameplay, physics, and graphics, as well as other functions. Battlefield 2 is often compared to the popular Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942 as both games take place in modern times and, since the acquisition of Desert Combat developer Trauma Studios by DICE, developers that worked on Desert Combat are now working on Battlefield 2.
