It was not unusual for my mother to call me at 4:00pm, and say that we were expecting guests for dinner. That meant some frenzied and creative menu planning, a mad dash to the local market on my bicycle and somehow, miraculously a dinner for 12 or 15, or 20 on the table at 8:00pm.
I still enjoy cooking as much as I did back then, but my repertoire has increased greatly. My first taste of American home cooking was at my husband’s Grandma’s table. I thank her for introducing me to comfort food at its finest.
That Grandma raised even better cooks is a testament to her culinary mastery and I continue to be inspired by them.
