Barnet Scouts: Home
Description
In 1908 Robert Baden-Powell wrote a series of articles that he hoped boys would enjoy reading but he never expected that they would form the basis for the largest and most successful youth organisations that the world has ever seen. Scouting for Boys inspired a movement that has about 34 million members, Scouts and Guides, spread across 97% of the countries of the world. In the UK alone the Scout and Guide associations total well over one million members, male and female, in single-sex and in mixed units. Around the world it is estimated that over 500 million people have been a part of the Scout and Guide movement.
The world has changed a lot in the last 95 years and Scouting has changed too. We are continually updating the things that we do and the way that we do them while, at the same time, holding on to the principles and values that are as attractive to today's young people as they were to the first boys into Scouting all those years ago.
Barnet District comprises nine Scout Groups covering Chipping Barnet to East Barnet, New Barnet to Totteridge. Each Scout Group includes a combination of Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts; some are mixed while others are boys only.
