Description
The founder of the classic American cowboy hat, John Stetson had gone to seek his fortune in gold in Colorado. This youngest son of a hat maker fashioned a wide brim, tall crown hat to shield himself from the elements, but lo and behold, instead of finding gold he was offered a five dollar gold piece for the hat and one of America's great manufacturing companies was launched.
Stetson's original cowboy hat design is called the "hat that won the West." Many Hollywood stars were fitted by Arizona Hatters, including Lee Marvin, from Paint Your Wagon and James Arness from How the West Was Won.
