Avon Federation of Womens Institutes
Description
The Federation organises many events during the year. These include outings to places of interest, evenings with well known personalities and get togethers such as Presidents' Evenings and Speakers Corners. Two major meetings, the EGM in March and AGM in September are held at the Winter Gardens, Weston-super-Mare where opportunities arise to voice opinions, listen to interesting speakers and share one another's company.
This Committee is involved with all forms of music, drama, creative writing, together with art and photography. It is also famous for its Christmas interpretations.
The Committee has a very wide remit. It is involved with all matters concerning the Department of Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs, Science and Technology, European Affairs, Consumer Protection and the D.S.S. The Autumn lectures have taken place over several years when various aspects of English Social History have been studied.
