Avid Gamers (AG) was, from 2001 to 2007, a community hosting system.
Created by Jon Valvatne, it hosted websites using a custom CMS whose main feature was a forum system, which could be created for free. As such it attracted novices wishing to create community-orientated websites with relatively little effort (and no cost), of which there were many thousands. Though it was originally created with online gaming clan sites in mind, the focus of most, but not all, of AG's hosted communities was a form of collaborative fiction-writing known as "roleplaying".
The second version of the system (AG2) failed to turn AvidGamers profitable and in 2007 a failing server and disappointing advertising revenue forced the website to finally shut down. Its community of users largely moved on to AcornRack.com, a competitor community hosting service, and AGeans.com.
