- The History of Arrowsmith goes back to 1964. At that time an individual by the name of Hugh Jeckel, of whom I know very little but who I suspect worked in one of the mills here in town, suggested to some of the Baptist General Conference leaders that the Alberni Valley was ripe for a Conference Church. Those were the days of prosperity and growth in the Valley! And I believe that those were the days when some members of First Baptist were meeting in homes for prayer and Bible study, and were considering beginning a Sunday School and perhaps a new church in Alberni or Old Town as it was still being referred to.
