The state of Texas sure knows how to do things in big ways. Take their area codes for example. Dallas has three area codes – 214, 469, and 972. All are for that one city of Dallas. Due to the immense growth of the Dallas – Fort Worth area, the area code 972 was assigned to the suburban areas of Dallas in March of 1997. The 214 area code was then retained for the city of Dallas proper.
