Apex High School, located in Apex N.C., is a 4-A school just outside of Raleigh, North Carolina. Under 11th year head coach, Beverly Lineberger, the Cougars won 6 straight conference season and 5 tournament championships from 1998-2003 only to finish second in the conference during 2004 behind Cary High School. During 2005, the Cougars had an outstanding season as they finished 9-3 in conference play and 19-4 overall. The Cougars advanced to the Eastern Regional 4A State Finals, before finally being defeated by Person County. This was only the 2nd time in Cougar history that Apex advanced that deep into the state playoffs, with the first run occurring in 2001. Apex was lead by seniors Michelle Lemmons, Beth Conaway, Carrie Hubbard and Erica Cypher. Michelle Lemmons and Beth Conaway both receiving Tri- Seven All-Conference Honors. Also recognized for the Cougars were juniors Elizabeth West, Nikki Sweet, Michelle Gabson, and sophomore Kaylie Gibson who received Honorable Mention honors. Lemmons will continue her volleyball career at Greensboro College along with 2003 graduate, Courtney Stringfellow, who is already playing for Greensboro. Beth Conoway will continue her career at St. Andrews Pres. College this fall as well.
