Title

Allied Model Trains

Description

Allied Model Trains was founded in 1946, by Art Truman, on Pico Boulevard in West Los Angeles. The current owner, Allen Drucker, purchased the business in 1975, when it was doing very poorly, and housed in a 1200 square foot building. The store was remodeled and expanded several times, and, in 1988, ground was broken for a brand new building, and, in September of 1989, the business was moved to its new home in Culver City.

The new facility is a 12,000 square foot, miniature replica of the Los Angeles Union Station, and it is packed with trains of every make and size. Lavish, operating train displays in N, HO, O and G gauges are placed throughout the store.

Since Culver City is the home of several, major film studios, and is only a short drive from such famous neighborhoods as Beverly Hills, Brentwood and Bel Aire, it is not uncommon to see celebrities shopping at the store. Past and current customers have included Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Phil Collins, Bruce Springsteen, Rosanne Barr, Rod Stewart, Donald Sutherland, and Richard Crenna, just to name a few.

In May of 2007 Alan Drucker sold Allied Model Trains to new owners, Fred Hill & Brian Brooks co-owners of the The Original Whistle Stop [1] in Pasadena along with former Allied employee Nick Barone. The business will be moved to a smaller Art Deco-style building Alan Drucker owns across the street and re-open sometime around July 2007. Alan Drucker plans to rent the Union Station look-alike building to Samy's Camera [2] , a large professional camera shop chain.
