- Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights was established in Gaza in 1993 by the initiative of released prisoners and detainees. Lawyers interested in the issues of detainees, democracy, and human rights, support this Association, in addition to the backing of national institutions and figures.
- In 1996, as a result of the political circumstances and the difficulties of travel between the West Bank and Gaza, Al-Dameer decided to become administratively and financially independent from the office in Ramallah. There remains a high-level of coordination and communication between both offices.
