- The Alabama Reading Association (ARA) is a professional organization for educators and others interested in improving literacy and promoting reading. ARA works to improve literacy in Alabama through its many projects, carried out through over 20 committees and 17 councils, and through an Annual Fall Conference and Summer Leadership Conference.
- Disseminate information to ARA councils regarding trends, research, and developments in the teaching of reading, and to encourage councils to communicate this information to their communities.
