- AIS was founded on 24 October 1997 by FSA-Muskie alumni in library-information science who studied and have been trained in the best US schools and libraries. They were eager to share their knowledge and experience with their colleagues, provide them with modern methods of communication and continuing education. Eventually AIS has grown into the national association of Georgian librarians and information specialists and currently represents the country in IFLA and other international library organizations.
- AIS continues to address issues of education and professional qualification of Georgian librarians by arranging training classes, conferences and workshops not only in Tbilisi, but in the regional centers of Georgia too, publishing association newsletters and journals.
