History
Late in the ninetheenth century, the settlement of Brownell was located near the brownell-Arizona Mining Company Copper Mine at the foot of the Vonam Mountain. When copper ran out, the town became a ghost town with Papago Indians living in the section called 'Ahe Vonan'. The name, meaning 'hat on bot ends', is derived from one of the Brownell Mountains (US-T121).
