An affray is basically an offense that involves two or more people fighting in a public place (or sometimes even privately). Effectively, an affray is a fight where injuries take place because of the violence that is occurring, and it can be punished quite harshly. It’s not the same as something like grievous bodily harm, which implies that one party was severely injured while the other attacked, since affray means that there was equal violence between the parties.
