Description
After her formal education at Sydenham High School for Girls (GPSDT) Gilli Reeves gained a Diploma with Distinction at The London College Of Furniture and Design; her specialist subjects were Interior Design and Textile Design. Aged just 17, financing her course was critical. By successfully making a range of pillows and soft furnishing items and retailing them at The Covent Garden Craft Market Gilli not only generated much needed cash but also gained early commercial experience.
Graduating 3 years later, in 1979, she embarked on the formidable task of combining artistic flair with hard-nosed business and during the next three years enjoyed employment with exclusive textile retailer Suzanne Garry, of Walton Street, and Royal Warrant Holders H.J.Tomkins and Sons, suppliers and fitters of interior fabrics and furnishing.
Her natural flair for design, her formal training and her acquired business acumen were sufficient for her to gain the position of Senior Designer at Heal and Sons, in London’s West End. International clients during the 1980’s property boom, with their demands for functional design and sumptuous décor, were well served by this quality store and it’s first-class interior design department; at the forefront of this was Gilli Reeves – still only in her early 20’s – catering to the needs of Middle Eastern families and domestic dignitaries alike.
