History
Reported to have been named about 1780 for Acquia Creek in Stafford County, Virginia (now spelled "Aquia" Creek) by James Garrard who was born in the area of the Virginia stream; Garrard purchased land near the mouth of Acquia Run before becoming governor of Kentucky from 1796 to 1804.
