A proposal to name this formerly unnamed feature Abernathy Meadow was submitted in April 1970; the USBGN rejected the proposal on 11 August 1970, based on the recommendations of the California Board. However, the name was applied to this feature on USGS maps and therefore, was compiled and added to GNIS.
