AVivaRa.org is working to improve the quality of education in Guatemala
Welcome to Avivara, a non-profit organization working to improve the quality of and access to education in Guatemala.
Founded in 2008 by three educators, Ann Austin, Gustavo Valle, and Gary Teale, Avivara is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides school improvement grants to significantly underfunded public schools in rural, poverty-impacted villages in Guatemala, scholarships to students from those same villages, and staffs two after-school learning centers.
Currently, Avivara provides support to eleven schools with a combined enrollment of over 1600 students, and scholarships to 40 students who are continuing their education on to junior high, high school, and college.
In addition to its work with Guatemalan schools and students, Avivara has produced a series of in-depth reports on such topics as Education in Guatemala, Poverty in Guatemala, Human Rights in Guatemala, Coffee in Guatemala, all of which are viewable on its website.
