Additional Information

Imperial Gloriensburg is a website committed to providing you with different sources available on the Internet as a public domain reference as well as featured and original content, focusing on different areas of the human knowledge. This concept does not only include 19th Century-related topics but information beyond the Victorian era such as the early Webster's Unabridged Dictionary of the early 20th century (1913) and the Probert Text Encyclopaedia published in the later years of the 1990s, just to name a few.

However, another of the the site's most popular features is the custom version of the Open Directory Project that we offer to our visitors. The Open Directory Project was found the summer of 1998 by Rich Skrenta and Bob Truel, a couple of enthusiasts webmasters based in California, who named their directory "Newhoo".

Later that year, Netscape bought the directory with a goal in mind: build the largest and most comprehensive human-edited open source directory under the domain dmoz.org. Popularly known as ODP or DMOZ, the Open Directory Project has integrated to its actual staff not less than 35,611 volunteer editors working on 354,910 categories within a wide range of languages and regions worldwide.

The Open Directory Project is common source "feeding" total or partially a vast number of search engines on the Internet such as Google, Altavista, Yahoo, Lycos, Hotbot, Inktomi, Netscape and AOL Search, All the Web, Gigablast, Teoma, DirectHit, WiseNut and more. ODP is also source powering a countless number of medium and small directory websites.

This way, the Open Directory Project is serving to its original purpose being part of a honest segment, sometimes critiziced and questioned, that offers free information open to all web surfers, as well as a submission service, feature of special relevance for webmaster wanting to spread the world about their websites.

Used wisely and under parental guidance when needed, the Open Directory project is also a useful research tool that enables people to explore those a wide array of categories. Imperial Gloriensburg has chosen the Society category, which encompasses ethnicity, folklore, people, philosophy, history, holidays, genealogy, urban legends, politics, paranormal, women issues, and many others,as representative of the most sought after content within our site.

But Imperial Gloriensburg is something more. Established in September 15th, 2001, our site is also committed to writing a legend on the net and you are cordially invited to join us.
