Route 66 was decommissioned in 1984, but many places across the country have not let the road or its history die. You will see more and more places either popping up or getting fixed up as towns all along Route 66 are spending the time and money (sometimes federal grant money) to restore the roadside stops to their original state. America just doesn’t want to let the memories of the freedom and opportunity that this historic road stood for come to an end.
